Welcome to Owl’s Crossing Preschool

Orientation, September 9th and 10th, First Days, September 11th and 12th

We hope that you found your “Welcome Letter” informative.  You will also be given a handbook at Orientation with detailed information regarding policies and procedures.  We are very excited to begin the 2019-2020 school year.   It is very important to us that you communicate any needs you or your child might have related to their time at Owl’s Crossing.  Please feel free to see us in the office or call any time.  Your child’s happiness and well being is of the utmost importance to us.

Drop-Off Procedure

Included in your “Welcome Letter” you were given a copy of our Drop-Off Procedure.  Please see Judy or Suzanne if you need another copy or if you have any questions.  It will take a few weeks for it to run smoothly so please bear with us.  We hope you find it convenient (especially in January!).  The most important thing we need to remember is that we cannot block Country Way under any circumstances.  We don’t want to upset our neighbors or the town!  Please queue from the parking lot across from the church, entering through the Mann Lot Road entrance of the parking lot.  If you choose not to use the Drop-Off, please feel free to park and walk your child in.  There is ample parking across the street and also some parking directly in front of the church doors.  Please avoid blocking the Drop-Off line when parking and make sure your child’s hand is held for safety.  Drop-Off will begin September 16th.

Open House

Saturday, November 2nd from 2:00pm – 3:30pm

Join us for our 8th Annual Open House!  We will have hay rides, face painting, popcorn and snacks, arts and crafts and Mama Steph will have a sing-along!  This is always a fun community event!

Nursery Classes

The first few months of Nursery Classes are geared towards socialization and learning to separate from caregivers.  Along with learning to adjust to school, we will be very busy using Playdough, sand, rice and other manipulatives to strengthen our little hands while also making new friends, playing with others, learning to work as a group, singing new songs, and having fun in our new environment.  These are important milestone for our “little owls”!

Color and Shape Days for All Classes

Each month we will explore a new color and shape.  September is “Red” and “Circle” month.  We will celebrate on September 19th and 20th.  Don’t forget to wear red to school!

Monthly Specialists for All Classes

To enhance our curriculum, each month we offer outside specialists to all classes.  By the end of the school year every class will have had each specialist twice.  Specialists include Mama Steph for music, Miss Patti from Funtastics for gross motor, Miss Kim for children’s yoga, Miss Erin from Etoile Studios for creative movement and Miss Ann the children’s librarian.  In addition, throughout the school year community helpers come to speak with the children.  Community helpers include the Scituate Fire Department, the Scituate Police Department, Miss Margaret the Dental Hygienist as well as others.  If you have a special talent or job that you would like to share with your child’s classroom, please speak with Judy or Suzanne in the office.  We love to have special guests!

Letter Days for Pre K Classes

Each week the Pre K classes will discover a new letter.  Your Pre K child may bring in an item from around your home that begins with the letter we are learning.  Letter Days for Pre K Classes begin on September 25th with Letter “A”.

Reading with TLC for Pre K

Reading with TLC is a research-based, clinically proven method with materials that provides opportunities to understand phonemic awareness through play based materials.  “Lively Letters” is a fun, interactive program within Reading with TLC.  Our teachers have been trained on the proper use of “Lively Letters” by Michelle Morrissey-Smith, former School Committee Member and Reading Specialist in the Brockton Public School System.  This will be our fifth year using “Lively Letters” with the Pre K children and they love it!  We will introduce it to the Pre K children on September 25th beginning with the sounds of “P” and “B”.

Docent Art for Pre K and 3 Day Nursery

On the 3rd Wednesday of each month beginning with October, “Art Aficionado”, Jen Adams, will be providing the Pre K classes with a monthly Docent Art experience.  Each month a different artist will be introduced beginning with Monet and Impressionism.  Stay tuned to the monthly newsletter for featured artists and activities.

Way up high in the apple tree,

A great big apple smiled at me.

I shook that tree as hard as I could,

Down came the apple…..mmmmm it was good!
