November 2025 Newsletter

November is Family Literacy Month

This November marks the 31st year that Massachusetts is acknowledging and celebrating the important role that families play in their children’s literacy development.  Family Literacy Month is an opportunity to engage parents, schools and the community to support children in out-of-school time learning.  In celebration of Literacy Month, each student will go home with a gift from Owl’s Crossing, If Animals Gave Thanks, by Ann Whitford Paul.   Once you have read the book with your family, your child can put up a sticker on our Owl reading chart.  We hope to fill it up with lots of owl stickers!  In conjunction with Literacy Month, we welcome parents and grandparents to come and read to the classes.  If you would like to be a guest reader, please speak with your child’s teachers to arrange a day.

PreK Letter Day and Lively Letters

PreK will be exploring the Letters “E, F, & G” this month.  Please refer to the calendar the date of each Letter.  Your child may bring something from home that begins with the Letter of the Day.  PreK will also be learning the sounds of the Letters “A, O, M & N” with Lively Letters.

Yellow and Brown Days

Wear your Yellow and/or Brown to school on Monday, November 17th and Tuesday, November 18th.

Yoga with Miss Kim

Miss Kim will be here to do yoga with all classes on Monday, November 17th and Tuesday, November 18th.

Nursery Adjustment Reports and Conferences

The Nursery Classes will receive an Adjustment Report to give parents an update on how your little one is adjusting to school.  They will be sent home on Thursday, November 20th  and Friday, November 21st.   A comprehensive Progress Report will be completed in January for every student at Owl’s Crossing.  Conferences for all classes, Nursery and PreK, will be in January.

Thanksgiving Sharing Bags

In celebration of Thanksgiving and in the spirit of sharing, we will be having a “buffet” on Monday, November 24th and Tuesday, November 25th.  A bag to fill at home with a healthy finger snack will be provided by your classroom teacher on Thursday, November 20th and Friday, November 21st.   Some suggestions for snack items are small crackers, goldfish, grapes, fruit pieces, berries, carrot and celery sticks, cheese cubes, mini marshmallows, raisins.  Please no peanut or tree nut products.  Labels need to be checked to make sure there are no traces of nuts.  We will also be making homemade butter for our feast!

An Owl’s Crossing Favorite song:

Thank you for the Earth and Sky,

Thank you for the birds that fly.

Thank you for the food we grow,

Thank you for the streams that flow.

Thank you, thank you this we say,

Thank you for Thanksgiving Day!

Hoot of the Month

“What is a Scarecrow’s favorite fruit”?

“Straw-berries!”

Quote of the Month

“What if today we were just grateful for everything?”…Charlie Brown

We wish you all the happiness that Thanksgiving brings!
